Your Luxury Guide to South Beach Wine and Food Festival 2019 in Miami

All right food lovers and wine snobs, here’s your charge.  First things first, verify the dates.  February 20-24, 2019.  OK, check.  Second, choose your events.  OK, done.  Third, make your reservations.  Ah, hun, got it.  Fourth, mark your calendars.  Yep, all good.  Fifth, and most importantly, contact CarHopper to reserve the luxury or exotic car rental of your dreams.  Yes, working on it now.

Do all steps, in that order.

These are your five steps to planning and preparing for “Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine and Food Festival 2019” (also referred to as SOBEWFF).  Yeah, I know it’s a mouthful, but take a breath and you will be fine.

A Brief History of the South Beach Wine and Food Festival

Launched in 1997, hosted by Florida International University (FIU), and formerly known as the “Florida Extravaganza,” the “South Beach Wine and Food Festival” is one of the largest food festivals in the nation. It attracts more than sixty-five-thousand guests each year!

In 2002, Lee Brian Schrager, director of special relations and media events of Southern Wine & Spirits of America took charge of the festival and moved it to South Beach, Miami, and renamed it “South Beach Wine & Food Festival.”

In 2007, the festival, still directed by Schager, entered into a partnership with “Food Network” to host special seminars and gourmet food tastings.

Now, this five-day destination event exhibits the talent and expertise of the world’s most well-known wine and spirits producers, chefs, and culinary personalities.  With a star-studded cast featuring some of your favorite celebrity chefs and over sixty-five-thousand attendees, this event has become an exciting and fun-filled getaway for visitors from all around the globe.

With more than eighty-five events held in South Beach, Miami, and various locations throughout South Florida, this five-day national fiesta features gourmets who delight the crowd with exquisite cuisine, demonstrations, and seminars.

Earnings from the festival benefit both the FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management and the Southern Wine & Spirits Beverage Management Center and offer students a way to gain valuable real-world experience.

Oh, and one other nugget for knowledge: in 2008, director Schager launched a sister-festival in New York City known as the “New York City Wine & Food Festival” (also referred to as NYCWFF) using a similar concept.  This festival too gained a reputation as one the most successful food festivals in the country, though in this case, all of the proceeds go to the Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaigns.

Now that we are clear on that, let’s move on, shall we?

How to Spend Your FREE Time at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival

interior of white Bentley GTC Speed luxury car

Well, you can start by driving through town in your 2016 White Bentley GTC Speed convertible, with a sexy red-hot leather interior that people will fawn over for days.  In a vehicle so handsome and effortlessly quick, capable of completing a quarter of a mile in 12.5 seconds, you will garner the full attention of the crowd.  Watch them stare and watch their heads turn as they try to speak.  The power is paralyzing, so instead, they point, as your beautiful 21-inch wheels roll forward.

However, the activity does not stop here.  SoBe, as the locals call it, offers a plethora of things to partake in while you are between events.

Alternative Things to do in Luxurious South Beach, Miami

With all the spectacular nightlife, Art Deco architecture, magnificent beaches spanning miles, shopping, excursions, full day tours, and some of the most breathtaking scenic drives in the area, choosing activities to partake in will be as easy as falling off a log.

To get you started, here are a few enjoyable activities you might consider:

Take a Drive on Florida Scenic Highway A1A

If you want to experience the real power of your 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera, take a drive on the Florida Scenic Highway, across the National Scenic Byway, through Bal Harbour, to John U. Lloyd Beach State Park.  Drop the windows, turn on the music, and enjoy a fantastic and peaceful ride up the coast as you witness impressive views of white sand beaches and colorful water.  Yes, a long trip up the coast in your exotic car rental is just what you need to test the stunning performance and immense power of the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 engine while controlling a tour de force of buttons on a 12″ display screen.  Ah, hun, it is like driving in a private paradise that everyone outside wishes they could see inside.

Take a Trip to the Florida Keys

In all its splendor, Miami offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in Florida.  If you are looking for a quiet moment away from the festival to reflect and you have a portion of the day available – or perhaps a free day – why not jump on the Overseas Highway (aka “The Highway That Goes to Sea”) and take a trip to the Florida Keys?

Travel 113 miles over 42 different bridges – including the famous Seven Mile Bridge in the city of Marathon – and admonish the ever-changing scenery between these two points.  While not nearly as long, the views while crossing the Seven Mile Bridge are as awe-inspiring as those when crossing the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California.  A journey to the Keys, indeed, is a trip that will prove most enjoyable and will have you living life like a Miami native.

Spend Time on the Golf Course

What do Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, and Arnold Palmer have in common?  They each designed a course at the well-known Reunion Golf Resort — a golf resort known for its hall of fame pedigree.  Spend a day on the golf course sprucing up your game, but be sure to keep your eyes open, because you might bump into Annika Sorenstam.  Ah, hun, the most celebrated woman golfer in history owns a boutique golf academy in Florida and tends to show up from time to time.  Play your cards right, and you might get a few pointers from a pro.  With several golf courses to choose from, you will have plenty of opportunities to explore the greens and tee up your golf ball.

Indulge in a Luxury Shopping Excursion

Unfortunately, you cannot visit Miami and not go shopping.  It is unheard of — so, now that you are here, it is time to hit the shopping malls.  As the highbrow person that you are, luxury is the only answer to your satisfaction.  So, jump into your turbo-charged candy apple red, automatic, droptop convertible, 2016 Ferrari California luxury car rental, and cruise to the Bal Harbour Shops for a high-energy, high-end shopping excursion.

The Bal Harbour Shops are nothing if not prestigious, and they are precisely where you belong.  Then head to Aventura Mall to snag a few more desirables and briefly mingle with your minions.  From there move onward to Lincoln Road Mall to complete your excursion.  Many compare this mall to the Champs-Elysées in Paris, while others compare it to the Boulevard Mall on the Las Vegas strip.  Either way, it is fast becoming one of the premier destinations to shop.

Live the Suite Life at Delano South Beach Hotel

You have moved around consecutively for five days now.  You have participated in every event possible, and consumed every exquisite dish served.  You have attended seminar after seminar and even journeyed up the coast in your spare time.  You have given so much of yourself to the South Beach Wine and Food Festival that the only thing left for you to do is go home to the Delano Hotel and relax.

The Delano Hotel is renowned for being the first hotel to gain notoriety and fame in the Miami Beach area.  With its white-on-white room décor; bungalows and one bedroom suites; luxurious penthouse; incredible spa and fitness center; swanky swimming pool; top-notch service, and other extravagant amenities explicitly designed for your style of living, you will be hard-pressed to find accommodations better.

Glamour, glitz, and unparalleled service are on the menu at your luxury abode — and after an activity-packed week at the festival, what more do you need before heading back home?

One Final Tip for the Health-Conscious Newbie

If this is your first time attending the South Beach Wine and Food Festival, you have probably heard that there will be plenty of enticing goodies to consume, and not all of them will be created consciously with “good health” in mind.

So, a noteworthy tip, just for you, should you choose to accept it —

If you are concerned that your health (and weight) goals will be affected by the surplus of exquisite cuisine at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival, be proactive about your lifestyle and consider dissolving weight or inches before you attend.  This way, when you get there, you can feel entirely comfortable overindulging in luxuriously delicious gourmet food, desserts, and wine, consistently for five days with absolutely no guilt.

After all, that is why you attend such a luscious event as the South Beach Wine and Food Festival — to indulge, nourish, and satisfy your curiously adventurous taste buds.  Though if that is not enough, you can take part in any number of beach workouts to burn those extra calories.

However, if consuming healthy food choices does not concern you, ignore this tip and show up ready to pack it in.
